Jesus delights in you!

Jesus delights in you …

hey hey,

Have you enjoyed Jesus lately? Are you resting in His love? I think He has a word for you today.

A Word: "For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17, NLT

Several years ago, I had a dream. I had just finished writing the book, Reinvent and I was laboring (with the Publisher) over what cover design would best suit this book. I had gone back and forth on several design ideas with the Publisher, but we couldn’t quite land on a cover we all loved.

So, one night I had a dream. In the dream, I was walking down an all white hallway, like you would see in an art museum, and there were two large and brightly colored pieces of art on the wall. I walked up to these two pieces and I was astounded at the vivid colors! The pieces of art almost seemed alive! They were so beautiful and thick and dimensional. When I touched them, they moved as if breathing. I was so excited about these amazing pieces of art and sort of lost in my exuberance, that when I looked up, I saw someone standing in the hallway watching me.

I realized this person was, Jesus! (I’ve had many dreams from the Lord over the years, but never with Jesus Himself actually IN the dream!) I was so happy to see Him. He had such a delighted smile and was laughing. I said to Him over and over, “Look at this? Is this heaven? This is amazing. Wow! Look at this art? It’s breathing and moving and the colors are so vivid…” I was just beside myself with joy and enthusiasm about the pieces of art and Jesus was just laughing and smiling. He seemed to be so delighted with MY delight about the art. He never said anything … but His smile. His laugh. His joy. His love. When I saw Him delight in the simple fact that I was so happy with these two pieces of art, it really gave me a fresh revelation on how much He loves us.

Then the dream ended.

When I woke up (and still today) I can’t forget His smile, laugh and His delighted disposition. He is kind. He is full of joy. He loves us!

So back to the book cover for a moment, the day after this dream, the Publisher sent me a book cover concept and it was full of paint brushes covered in vivid paint colors! I knew that was the cover design we should go with — and we did.

So, today - keep your heart centered on Jesus and remember He delights over you with gladness!!

Stir up your love for the lost ...

stir up love for the lost …

hey hey,

Do you need a jolt to stir up your love and compassion for the lost? For those far from Christ? Those who are empty and acting out of their own pain, hurt and trauma? It’s easy get busy with our own lives and challenges and become immune to those around us. If needed, ask the Lord to stir up a genuine love for the lost in your heart as you read today’s blog.

A Word: Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!” Luke 15:1-2, NLT

I have always loved and been challenged by this passage in Luke 15. The people who were drawn to listen to Jesus were people far from God, the lost, the tax collectors and notorious sinners. What was it that made Jesus so winsome? How can I be more like Jesus? What changes do I need to make?

A Song: I’m gonna take you back … way back! I have a playlist of songs to keep me stirred up to love and reach out to the lost and these are straight out of the 70’s and 80’s! They’ve been keeping me stirred up for over 50 years… (yikes!)

Your soul might have to get past the style of music, but I hope these songs stir up your heart with His love — maybe you’ll see the people around you in a different light. Enjoy these 3 songs …

Which Way the Wind Blows, by Second Chapter of Acts - Classic, heartfelt!

Don’t You Wish You Had the Answers, by Keith Green - Stirs compassion!

Prodigal Son Suite, by Keith Green - Long intro and song, so worth it!

peace, love and blessings,

Shouted lately?

Shouted lately?

hey hey,

Okay, one month down with our new 2023 blog format! I hope you’ve been encouraged by the Wednesday email and the short “word, song and a laugh.”

Today, let’s talk about shouting!

A Word: Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!” Psalm 47:1, NKJV

There is something about “shouting!” God seems to like it when we shout (sometimes by faith!) with a voice of triumph. The Bible is full of stories of God's people shouting, singing and praising God with a voice that sounds like they won! We can join those stories by shouting our praises to God with a voice of triumph before, during and after any battle, project, or assignment is complete. That's because we know that “in Christ” because He won, we win!

We've shouted by faith many times while in the heat of the battle and prior to seeing the actual victory. And God has always been faithful to lead us to victory. When life is hard, it's easy to miss the importance of "shouting" by faith, but it's in the shout that the Lord sometimes knocks down walls! Are you in a battle? It's time to "shout!"”

These days, (we are in a great season to shout!) after nearly 32 years of pastoring Valley Family Church, my husband and I are just about to enter "semi-retirement" -- that is, we will “retire” from serving as the Senior Pastors as we the baton of Lead Pastor to our son and daughter-in-love. And, we will continue to serve as the Founding Pastors, Bible teachers and Pastoral Advisors for some time to come.

It’s an exciting season and there is a shout of victory in our hearts — a sense of fulfillment in knowing that we have followed His call to plant and lead VFC all these years, a sense of satisfaction when we think about the eternal fruit He has produced and a very real joy in knowing we are turning the VFC congregation over to very capable hands and hearts.

We could miss this moment -- this moment to "shout" and praise God by staying busy and moving to the next thing, but we don't want to do that. We want to live in this moment to celebrate all that the Lord has done, all that He's brought us and our church family through, all of the eternal fruit He has produced ... and all that is to come. The best way to own the moment is to "shout to God with a voice of triumph!"

So, do you have something you should be celebrating? Maybe it's time to shout!

A Song: Here are a couple of old songs to stir up the “shout” within you. No matter what you are going through through — be it a challenge or a major victory — shout to God with a voice of triumph!

Shout to the Lord, by Hillsong - the heartfelt and classic song - sing it loud!

Shout Unto God, by Hillsong United - go ahead and have a praise shout-fest!

Jesus Gave Me Something to Shout About, by Rhema Singers and Band - an oldie but goodie from a Campmeeting - enjoy every second!

I hope you have a great time shouting!

peace, love and blessings,

A Laugh: Shout to the Lord for tacos!

Family Secrets :)

Family secrets …

hey hey,

I hope you are enjoying our 2023 blog! As promised, each Wednesday I will be sending you “a word, a song and a laugh.”

I pray you are blessed by today’s short and snappy blog.

A Word: “… All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:3, NLT

God gave Abraham (the father of our faith) a big promise of blessing for families! Galatians tells us that because of our faith in Jesus, we are also heirs of the blessing of Abraham! That means, it’s God’s desire that your family is blessed!

So what’s the secret? How do we cooperate with the Lord to experience a blessed family? A family blessed in relationships. Blessed in material blessings. Blessed in health. Blessed in love and kindness. Blessed in forgiveness. Blessed in fertility? Blessed in calling, vocation and influence? And blessed in so many other ways?

The secret is: Faith! Just like Abraham. Faith means: we believe God and His promises. We declare His promises over our families. We are led by the Spirit to love, communicate, honor and please the Lord in our daily choices with one another. Of course, there’s a lot we could say about families, but for today — let’s sing and declare God’s promises over our families!

One of the things we’ve declared over our family and our church family for the past 30+ years is this: “The Name of Jesus, the Blood of Jesus and the Angels of God surround you and protect you everywhere you go - spirit, soul and body - front to back, side to side and top to bottom! You are filled with God’s wisdom, surrounded with favor, full of His Spirit and you make good decisions. In Jesus Name. Amen!” Please feel free to adopt this same declaration of faith for your family and tweak it as you see fit.

A Song: Here are 3 songs you can sing over your family. Do it every day and watch what the Lord does!

Surrounded, by Valley Worship Team - I wrote this song several years ago based on the words (mentioned above) that we declared over our family and kids for decades. The Valley Worship Team fine tuned it and made this recording! We still sing and declare these things over our family and our church family.

Speak the Name of Jesus, by Charity Gayle (feat. Steven Musso) - This song says it all!

The Blessing, by Kari Jobe - Amazing, anointed song take from Numbers 6:24-26

peace, love and blessings,

A Laugh: It happens! :)

Sing about the blood!

Sing about the blood …

hey hey,

I hope you enjoyed the first edition of our 2023 blog! As promised, each Wednesday I will be sending you “a word, a song and a laugh.”

I pray you are blessed by today’s short and snappy blog.

A Word: “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.” Ephesians 1:7, NLT

In 1981, I had the pleasure of leading my dad to the Lord. When he went to heaven in 2013, he wanted these two words on gravestone: Blood Bought.

My dad knew something about the blood of Jesus.

We get to enjoy absolute freedom from all the penalties of sin in the new and better covenant because of Jesus and His shed blood!

A Song: There’s nothing like singing about the blood of Jesus. When you sing about Jesus’ blood you are declaring your freedom, redemption, protection, healing, provision and all the benefits of your salvation. Sing it out! These three 3 songs (a very different and eclectic mix!) about the blood of Jesus always penetrate my heart and fill me with such joy and gratitude to the Lord. I pray they do the same for you as you let them saturate your soul…

Thank You Jesus for the Blood, by Charity Gayle — in my top 5 fave songs!

This Blood, by Rachel Chapman - old school, pure, heartfelt, anointed!

O The Blood, by Kari Jobe - classic, powerful, anointed!

peace, love and blessings,

A Laugh: Laughter is good medicine!

A Word: "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8

The beginning of the year is always a good time to forget the past and draw near to the Lord. It’s a great time to seek the Lord, to hear His voice, get His direction and experience His love in a fresh way. While He promises to never leave or forsake us; sometimes we need to retune our hearts to experience His presence.

The New Year is a great time to draw near to Him and say, “Yes” to the Lord.

A Song: Here are three songs that never fail to touch my heart and bring me nearer to Him. A couple of these are classic oldies, but goodies … no matter how old you are or what type of music you listen to, The last song is more recent and powerful.
