everything is a seed

hey hey,

In today’s blog, I am sharing “A Word, A Song and A Laugh” to remind you that everything is a seed.

A WORD:

“…she plants a vineyard…”

Proverbs 31:16

We are planting seeds all the time. Did you know that? It turns out, everything is a seed — His Word, our faith, our words, our actions, our non-verbal communication, our tone, our labors, a glance, our silence, an act of kindness, our prayers, a meal, our service, our witness, a touch, a hug, our time, our generosity, our giving and so much more — even our very lives are a seed.

The good news is that we can plant an entire vineyard! (We’ve been in Michigan this summer and there are hundreds of vineyards in southwest Michigan and up north in the Traverse City area. We’ve driven by and visited several and they are stunning! They are huge, beautiful and producing multiplied levels of beautiful fruit that is being enjoyed by thousands upon thousands of people.)

When we sow seeds, we are planting vineyards! The truth is, our whole life we are planting seeds. We can plant a vineyard by sowing seeds into the ground of another person’s life or into the timeline of our own lives. Eventually, every seed produces fruit. It may takes years or decades to see the cumulative effect of the seeds we sow. But the harvest will come — and the fruit produced will be sweet or bitter, depending on the seed sown. One thing is for sure, fruit will come from the seeds we sow.

The Bible is full of this seed and harvest principle. Here are just a few passages on the seeds we sow and the fruit we eat.

Genesis 8:22 - “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

Mark 4:26-29 - “And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

Luke 8:11 - “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”

2 Corinthians 9:7, 10 - “Who ever goes to war at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock? …10 Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness…”

Psalm 1:3 - “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”

Psalm 92:12-14 - “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing…”

Proverbs 1:31 - “Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies.”

Proverbs 11:30 - “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.”

Proverbs 18:21 - “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Proverbs 31:31 - “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands …”

Isaiah 3:10 - “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”

Isaiah 57:19 - “I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says the Lord, “And I will heal him.”

Matthew 13:23 - “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

Luke 6: 43-45 - “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”

John 15:5, 8, 16 - “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. … 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples …. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

Hebrews 13:15 - “Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.”

So, be intentional as you go about your life — be deliberate to plant all kinds of good seeds throughout your days — and one day you’ll see, those seeds will produce a beautiful vineyard of fruit!
